Oxnard-- The Eagles Lodge continued its people-helping-people mission and hosted a BBQ Fundraiser benefitting those people living with Diabetes on Saturday, September 9.
ATTENDEES were treated to chicken leg quarters, sausage, salad, chili beans, garlic bread, and homemade ambrosia for dessert.
All proceeds from the fundraiser went to the Robert Hanson Research Center for Diabetes Research.
Co-chairman Cynthia Casillas has been an Eagle for 17 years and hosted the event with Junior Baretto. Casillas hopes and prays they will find a cure for Diabetes one day.
“I know a lot of people who are Diabetic and passed away,” she said. “My father-in-law passed away from Diabetes last year, and my Father had a toe amputated because of Diabetes, and it was hard for him to heal.”
She said her husband is also Diabetic, along with many other Diabetic friends and family members.

“This is important to me,” she said. “It’s a battle for some people because it’s hard living with Diabetes because you have to watch for so much.”
She is driven to create the barbecue because she feels bad for anybody who manages the condition.
