Eagles pay tribute to Mom

Oxnard— Moms were the stars and heroes at the Oxnard Eagles Hall on Sunday, May 12, as the Eagle’s Men cooked a sumptuous breakfast for Moms celebrating with family.

THE day was filled with laughter, hugs, flowers, and the usual spirit of people coming together to help people, the backbone of the Oxnard Eagles.

Cook Joey Gutierrez had the breakfast orders flying out of the kitchen.

“We have eggs, bacon or sausage, and home fries,” he said. “We don’t have any specials today. We’re doing this for our Aerie Sisters and Mothers.”

He remembers going to the swap meet as a young man with his Mom.

“We’d go to the swap meet and church every Sunday,” he said.

Aerie Secretary Walter Seymour was honored to serve the Moms on their special day.

“I’m serving the orange juice and the coffee,” he said. “We got here at about 6 a.m., but the ladies set up the hall on Saturday night.”

 

Eagles Member David Duske said the Fraternal of the Eagles worked with President Woodrow Wilson to establish Mother’s Day.
