East Family Justice Center talks productive

Ventura—The Board of Supervisors, during its Dec. 17 meeting, discussed developing the East County Family Justice Center.

The goal is to bring services to Ventura County’s East Side and assist victims experiencing trauma and debilitating crimes in Moorpark, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, and surrounding communities to access services locally.

District Attorney Erik Nasarenko led the conversation and said getting to the Ventura Justice Center is difficult.

“We’re removing transportation barriers and maximizing access,” he said. “It takes a long time to get to the Family Justice Center from the communities of Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, and Oak Park, which takes about 40-45 minutes, depending on where you’re coming from on average.”

He noted the outstanding public transportation system in Ventura County, and there’s transit from Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks, but traveling to the Family Justice Center requires two bus lines and upwards of two hours of transit time.

“The decision to place the Family Justice Center in Thousand Oaks is based partly on the geography,” he said. “We wanted a midway point to service the surrounding communities.”
