Fire extinguishers agreement updated

Oxnard—The Public Works and Transportation Committee, Tuesday, Jan. 28, approved its trade services agreement for fire extinguisher services.

The $200,000 agreement will provide fire extinguishers for City buildings, vehicles, and equipment.

Assistant Public Works Director Steve Howlett presented the agreement that lasts until Feb. 4, 2027, and doesn’t exceed $200,000.

“Over 1,000 hand-held fire extinguishers located throughout the City’s public buildings, repair shops, ancillary buildings, equipment, machinery, fire trucks, and service vehicles throughout the City,” he said. “Fire extinguishers range up to 30 pounds, contain water or chemical-based agents pressurized by compressed air or carbon dioxide, and require inspections annually. Fire compression devices require annual inspections to ensure regulatory compliance and safeguard the public’s safety, environment, and City property. County Fire Protection has provided fire extinguisher services since 2019.”

Howlett said fire extinguisher services cost less than $100,000 annually, and the County Fire Protection’s existing fire suppression system, an on-call agreement, causes the City to combine amounts for services exceeding $200,000.

“The new agreement provides financial resources to cover annual costs and maintain its fire extinguishers over the agreement,” he said.

The single, verified bid by County Fire Protection and the Staff determined the contractor meets the City’s financial requirements.
