Food & Toy Drive brings community together

Channel Islands--The Spirit of Giving reached Fisherman’s Wharf Saturday, December 4, as the 3rd Annual Food & Toy Drive brought people to the area with toys and food to help the families that need it most.

The donations included new, unwrapped toys and sporting equipment, with the help of Spark of Love and the Fire Departments of Ventura County.

Food Share of Ventura County also participated and collected beans, salmon, tuna, peanut butter, and non-sugared cereal that were not perishable but needed.

The effort brought in over 1,100 toys and $4,300 of food and raised $28,000.

Food Share matched money donations up to $10,000.

René Aiu from the Harbor Beach Community Alliance said they are doing the event with the Harbor Department to raise much-needed food and toys for the Christmas Holiday.

“This is something needed for the community,” she said. “We need to make sure that people in the Community that are not as lucky as we are can have a little joy too.”

 
 

Parents looking for ways to deal with the effects of inflation are challenged to make ends meet, and Aiu agrees donations from the Food & Toy Drive are a welcome relief.
