Oxnard--The City Council extended its local emergency in the aftermath of the Dec. 21 storm that delivered epic rains to the area during its Tuesday, Feb. 20 meeting.
The order ratifies the Emergency Director’s Orders regarding the Severe Storms Local Emergency (“Local Emergency”) proclaimed by the Director of Emergency Services on Wed. Dec. 27, 2023, the City Council ratified on Jan. 2, and after reconsideration, finds the local emergency needs to continue.
City Attorney Stephen Fischer said the local emergency suspends street sweeping citations and vehicles rendered inoperable due to severe flooding for an additional month.
“The existence of a state of emergency has to be done under State law periodically, and this is the time to do it; otherwise, it will expire prior to the next Council meeting,” he said.
During public comments, Ignacio Morales Mendez said through an interpreter that he lives on Brookside Avenue and said his apartment was flooded on Dec. 21, 2023, and they had more than 14 inches of water.
