Gateway Task Force makes progress

Oxnard-- The Community Services, Public Safety, Housing & Development Committee, Tuesday, April 25, received and approved the update on the Mayor’s Gateway Task Force and authorized an agreement with Found Design DBA MERJE.

The item had preliminary schematic designs for the Mayor’s four gateways and authorizes Mayor John Zaragoza to execute the agreement with Found Design for a total not to exceed $400,000 for the development, engineering, and construction administration of the gateways. It also authorizes City Manager Alex Nguyen to initiate the design, construction, permitting, and project management on Gateway1, in South Oxnard.

Project Manager Samantha Shapiro presented the item and said its part of the Council’s Five-Year Priorities adopted on March 16, 2021; the City Council committed itself to clean up the City’s Gateways.

“As part of this effort, Mayor Zaragoza appointed six community members to the Mayor’s Gateway Task Force in September 2021 to lead this effort,” Shapiro said. “The Members include Armando Lopez, a member of the Oxnard Business Community; Brittney Hendricks, Vice President of Marketing for Visit Oxnard; Selena Zachariah, Senior Director of Community and Government Relations for California State University Channel Islands, and a Harbor Commissioner; Marvin Boos, Co-Creator of the Neighborhood Pride…
