Half-Marathon unites runners

Channel Islands—There was a sea of runners at the Santa to the Sea Half-Marathon on Sunday, December 14, all hoping for prizes, but most were there for the joy of running and the love of exercise.

RUNNERS competed in the Half-Marathon, Quarter-Marathon, 5K Run/Walk, Kids 1K, and Diaper Dash. Frankie Flores, the Shake Shack Assistant General Manager, said Shake Shack likes being part of the community.

“This is a big thing for Port Hueneme and Oxnard,” he said. “We’re handing out burgers to our runners today.”

He said Shake Shack stands apart from other restaurants by its hospitality.

“When you come to Shake Shack, we welcome you with open arms,” he said. “It’s more like fine dining, instead of a fast food experience. We take care of them like they’re family.”

Shake Shack stands for doing something good.

“Everything we do, everything we cook, that’s our mission, he said.

They also feature a full menu of specialties.

Flores has been with Shake Shack for five years, and he said he caught the passion to serve others 12 years ago.

“I like serving people and making them good food,” he said.
