Heavy Equipment purchase Approved

Oxnard—The Public Works and Transportation Committee, on Tuesday, September 9, approved purchase orders (PO) with Gibbs International and the Charles Machine Works to purchase heavy equipment.

Water Division Manager Chris Payton presented the PO and said the Gibbs International PO will not exceed $300,000 to purchase a 10-ton 2026 HV607 SBA International Truck.

The Charles Machine Works is for a not-to-exceed value of up to $700,000 to purchase a 2025 Kenworth T-480, with a Ditch Witch Hydro Vacuum Truck/Excavator with a Standard Package (Vacuum Truck).

“The City’s Water System consists of 600 miles of pipelines and nearly 43,000 water services,” he said. “Water Pipelines periodically require maintenance and repair, and the dump trucks are essential to complete repairs and replace infrastructure during regular preventative maintenance.

He said Hydro Vacuum Trucks are a single piece of equipment that allows Staff to excavate from outside a trench, protecting existing utilities, and makes site clean-up more efficient.

 

“Vehicle 09404, a 2009 International 4300V Two-Door 2-axle dump truck, reached the end of its useful life,” he said. “High mileage has resulted in increased maintenance costs.”
