Oxnard-- Students at Hip Hop Mindset (HHM) continued their tradition of positive community action through outstanding leadership Saturday, November 19, as the group hosted a food drive helping people in need.
With the holidays approaching quickly, the featured item, turkeys, and other canned goods were handed out to happy families smiling broadly.
Founder William Venegas said the group reached out to a school district and got a list of families that needed help for Thanksgiving.
“We took care of that,” he said. “We went out and bought the turkeys this morning. We went to Target.”
He said many stores had a one turkey per-family limit.
“I talked to the manager, and he let me have 30 Turkeys,” Venegas said. “We decided to do this last week. We did this two years ago and gave away 100 Turkeys. It was so last-minute this year that we stuck to 30. It was hard to get 100 Turkeys last time.”
He said the kids, along with other crew members, are excited to give away the Turkeys.
“They’re going to help us pass them out,” Venegas said. “It feels good to give back to the community, especially during the holidays.”
