Honor and Rembrance: Oxnard Thanks Vets

Oxnard—Community members across Ventura traveled to Plaza Park on Monday, May 27, to honor and remember those lost during its Memorial Day remembrance.

MEMORIAL Day honors and remembers soldiers who paid the ultimate price defending freedom and did not return from the field of battle.

Among the items commemorating Veterans, Soldiers were honored by the Vietnam Veterans of Ventura County, who posted colors and conducted the Missing Man Table Ceremony. The Channel Islands Raider Band played the National Anthem. The Oxnard Knights of Columbus honored fallen Veterans with a wreath at the Memorial Monument.

Mayor John Zaragoza addressed the crowd and read a proclamation about the solemn occasion.

“It’s an honor to be here this morning,” he said. “Today, we come together to remember Memorial Day, which offers an important opportunity to give thanks to those who perished serving our Armed Forces in the United States of America. Many of our friends, family members, ancestors, and loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice. This ceremony gives us a chance to gather and reflect, and we mourn the lives of those who have passed and draw inspiration from their courage.”
