Hueneme Beach Car Show engages community

Port Hueneme—The third annual Hueneme Beach Car Show, Sunday, June 9, brought fans together for lots of fun and friendship.

THE event, with all proceeds benefitting the Port Hueneme Police Explorers, was full of activities. DJs mixed all day, and food trucks and a vendor alley made the day memorable.

Port Hueneme Police Sergeant Baltazar Tapia is one of the Police Explorer Supervisors and loves seeing the Explorers involved in positive activities.

“Some Explorers have vests on, and they’re walking around, and it shows their interaction and participation with the community,” he said. “They’re helping with registration and traffic, and they’re also setting up and tearing down the event.”

He said there is a myriad of kids who want to become Police Hueneme Police Department Police Explorers, and some have prior law enforcement experience with family members or they hear about the program at school.

 

“Sometimes they are referred to us by teachers saying we heard some of these kids are interested in law enforcement; do you mind talking to them,” he said. “We’ll bring them in.”

He said very few kids with school and home issues are brought into the program.
