Hueneme Beach Park Playground Design updated

Port Hueneme-- The City Council received an update about Hueneme Beach Park’s Playground Design during its Monday, June 20 meeting.

City staff has been working with Lauterbach & Associates. David Casterson on the project and Landscape Architect Brian Broderson also attended the meeting.

Housing and Facilities Director Gabby Basua introduced the update to the council, and she said they refer to it as a destination playground and noted that Broderson put together “something really neat” for Hueneme Beach Park.

Broderson said they wanted to make sure the playground’s design is easily identifiable to everyone in the city and make sure it’s fun.

“We came with a concept of using the shape of an Octopus as a beginning point,” he said. “Access to the beach was important, and then, of course, we have a playground structure.”

He said one of the playground equipment’s concepts was to have a lifeguard stand for the kids and make it slightly elevated.

“It’s been designed for accessibility and has several different features,” he said. “We thought it was whimsical and fun to change the material underneath and have the Dolphins for the kids to play on.”
