Oxnard—During its Tuesday, June 25 meeting, the Community Services, Public Safety, Housing & Development & Development Committee unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Investigations.
Sergeant Dale Mcalpine with the Oxnard Police Department Family Protection Unit presented the MOU and said the agreement is for three years with a total amount not exceeding $494,544 for a collaborative partnership between the Police Department and Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for the detection, investigation, and prosecution of ICAC cases.
“Oxnard is the largest City in Ventura County and has the largest number of Internet Crimes Against Children,” he said.
Mcalpine said Internet Crimes Against Children are reported through Cyber Tips, a designated reporting mechanism for the public and Electronic Service Providers, to report instances of suspected child exploitation.
“In 2022, the Police Department received over 327 Cyber Tips for the exploitation of children,” he said. “The Police Department and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office are committed to the aggressive investigation and prosecution of criminal cases involving the sexual exploitation of Children.”
