Oxnard—Education and family fun highlighted the Fourth Annual Oxnard Insect Festival at Plaza Park on Saturday, June 1.
OVER 10,500 visitors attended the Festival, learned about 100s of species, and consumed about 100,000 bugs. The free community event enhances learning and expands minds.
City Manager Alex Nguyen founded the Insect Festival and is happy to see the event grow.
“The underlying premise of this event was to bring the science museum experience to the kids and families in our community,” he said. “Getting into a car and going to a science museum, for families, is not inexpensive.”
He said the kids’ and parents’ engagement levels, and grandparents’ engagement levels and what they’re doing together are evident in their faces.
“When you walk around the booths and see what they’re doing, they’re learning something, they’re fascinated, and in some cases, they’re afraid,” he said. “In all these cases, they’re doing it as a family.”

He called the Insect Festival the subsequently most interesting Oxnard City Festival.
