Port Hueneme—The City Council, Monday, September 16, approved additional revisions for its Library Mural, suggested by the Mural Sub-Committee, and the City Council approved the Mural design.
The project is funded with $50,000 in Community Benefit Funds, $35,000 used for the Mural’s installation, and the remaining $15,000 initially used for two pop-up Murals but could be used to pay for replacement landscaping, irrigation, and ongoing Mural maintenance.
Community and Development Director Tony Stewart said the City Council offered Mural design changes on Monday, June 17, and asked to add additional clover to its design on July 15.
“They asked for a flower other than the lemon blossom along with the lemons to be provided and the Port to be shown a little more visibly,” he said. “The Tomo, or Chumash Boat, also is rendered differently.”
He said the artist took that advice and made changes.
“On the far right, there are cranes used to symbolize the Port; California Poppies were added to replace the lemon blossoms,” he said. “The Tomo was redesigned, and the clover on the far left was added.”
