Lima Bean Fest is tasty fun

Oxnard—Historic Oxnard Farm Park & Museum scored a big win with its inaugural Lima Bean Fest on Saturday, September 14, which attracted guests from across Ventura County to savor and enjoy great treats offered by local restaurants.

THE event featured great music, plenty of lima beans, six different vendors, activities, sampling, liquid refreshments, and a little dancing as attendees voted for their favorite lima bean recipe.

Oxnard Historic Farm Park and Museum Director Jeff Maulhardt didn’t realize the Lima Bean Fest would draw such a huge crowd.

“We’ve already had about 200 people come through, so we’ll probably have 400-500 people for the day,” he said. “It makes me want to do it again next year.”

Maulhardt has written a book about how Ventura County is renowned for growing the beans, called “Ventura County Lima Beans, a History,” on sale at the Park for $25.

 

“We’re also selling two pounds of dry Lima Beans, grown on the Oxnard Plain,” he said. “We’re selling a commemorative poster we had designed for $15, similar to what they do for the Strawberry Festival.”
