Lopez sworn in as new District 5 Supervisor

Ventura-- The Board of Supervisors welcomed new District Five Supervisor Vianey Lopez with a formal swearing-in ceremony Tuesday, October 4.

Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Lopez after Board Chair Carmen Ramirez was struck and killed in a vehicular accident on August 12.

Lunn noted before the ceremony that so many people attending or watching may have taken oaths, sometimes more than once.

“Maybe, this is a good time, as we issue the oath here, to look back at our oaths and take in what it really means,” he said. “As soon as the oath begins, it’s a transfer of power. With that transfer of power, there is also a transfer of trust from the public that places you there. It also includes a public promise that you’re going to fulfill your duties to the best of your ability. There’s a legal responsibility for you to do that.”

Lopez thanked the crowd for attending and said everyone is a part of her family, her direct and extended part of her family.
