MacDonald candidacy offers continued progress

Oxnard—The City Council will change this November, and Mayor Pro Tem Bryan MacDonald is running for Mayor because he sees the City clicking and wants to continue that trend.

MacDonald worked for the Police Department for 30 years before retiring and has served four terms on the City Council.

He originally thought that would be enough until he heard that Mayor John Zaragoza planned to step away at the end of his term.

MacDonald asked Zaragoza if he was going to seek re-election. Zaragoza said he was undecided but told MacDonald to be ready.

“People were telling me that I need to run for Mayor,” MacDonald said. “I have great respect for Mayor Zaragoza, and I will not run against the man. I’ve enjoyed working with him, and we’ve had a good relationship.”

Without a confirmation from Zaragoza, MacDonald filed his candidacy with the State of California but didn’t accept any political donations.

MacDonald said Oxnard is a rarity and one of only a few Cities in the State with a budget surplus.
