MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY

Oxnard-- The City of Oxnard played host to a moving tribute to Veterans Monday, May 30, as the Memorial Day Remember and Honor Ceremony thanked members of the Armed Forces for paying the ultimate price for protecting liberty.

MAYOR John Zaragoza said with the two years of pandemic issues, they haven’t been able to do anything to support Veterans.

“Now we have the opportunity to come out in the fresh air and support our Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice,” he said. “Today, we’re not talking about wars and who won what; we’re going to talk about the heroes that lost their lives defending our nation, which is extremely important.”

Zaragoza said his dad was a World War II Veteran, and his uncle was killed in the Korean War.

“The Vietnam Memorial here in Plaza Park is really important because those soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice,” he said. “They are heroes, and I am happy to be here on behalf of my family and the city.”
