Oxnard—The City of Oxnard, Monday, May 25, had a moving ceremony of remembrance on Memorial Day, for those who paid the price on the field of battle.
ELECTED officials, Veterans, Clergy, and those in attendance remembered all the fallen heroes who are forever immortalized, along with their families.
Ron Robinson is on the Board of Directors for American Veterans of Southern California (Am Vet), and he served in the Navy for 21 years.
“I retired in 2012, and I still work for the Government for 14 years, so that’s 35 years,” he said. “I was a Post Commander at Am Vet in Oxnard for five years, and I’m still a Post Commander, and I work on the Post Committee, with everybody.”
Ron proudly served as a Navy cook on an aircraft carrier.
“I served daily for anywhere from 6,000 to 7,200 people,” he said. “We continuously did batch cooking. You cook everything in batches. When you get down to a couple of hundred servings, you get out another batch.”

He worked shifts between 12-15 hours, and shifts overlapped for cleaning.
“We fed people at any time, 24 hours,” he said.
