Murphy Auto Museum slated to close

The Murphy Auto Museum, known for its collection of vintage automobiles and monthly Muscles & Mojo car shows, will close its doors on July 7.

THE last Muscles and Mojo will be on Sunday, June 16.

The car shows at the museum, affectionately known as “The Murph,” would bring together people from across Ventura County and feature unique rides and handmade crafts, a large die-cast car collection, and an HO Train room, along with plenty of car stories, coffee, and donuts; some would bring their barbecue to make Sunday mornings fun.

Murphy Auto Museum Foundation Director David Neel took over from Dr. Murphy in January 2014 after about six months of negotiation.

“Dr. Daniel Murphy wanted to get out of the museum because his wife was sick, and it was going to go under if someone didn’t take it over,” Neel said. “At that time, I thought it would be fun to run a car museum.”

He noted that no money was exchanged when he took over the museum.

“We were at the old location on Statham in January 2014, and our lease ran out, and our landlord only put us on month-to-month,” he said. “A few months into 2019,…
