National Night Out builds community

Oxnard—Residents across the City gathered joyously on Tuesday, August 6, as National Night Celebrations built neighborly camaraderie with a splash of fun and food.

NEIGHBORS met Police and Fire Department members, connected with neighbors and enjoyed fun activities while local resources provided vital information.

Oxnard Shores Neighborhood Chair Walt Hagedohm is proud to hold such a great community-building event and noted that it’s nice to host the Police and Fire Departments who came out and interacted with the community.

“We don’t have a lot of social events, and this allows us to interact with our leaders in a very informal setting,” he said. “Council Member Bert Perello said he’s coming and worked with our Neighborhood Council very effectively. Oxnard Shores deals with a lot of things; we deal with the Coastal Commission on sea level rise and short-term rentals. There are issues where we’re dealing at a level where we have to work with the City on policy.”

 

He said sea level issues are coming to the forefront, and the Neighborhood Council is working with the County and Planning Departments.
