Port Hueneme—The City Council approved priorities between the City and the Navy during its Monday, June 3, meeting.
City Manager James Vega said they’ve discussed key priorities that advocate for the same thing.
“The Mayor, myself, or Mayor Pro Tem are asked to speak at some of these groups and things and make sure we have a consistent message when we work with our partners,” he said. “In the first round, we talked about goals related to one of our major partners, the Port this year. Round two is one of our goals for the Navy.”
He said goal one is bringing the base and City communities together, and there have been good initial conversations.
“Particularly with our Recreation Department about how we do these events like Touch a Truck,” he said. “The first Touch a Truck was great, but we didn’t really have a Military presence, and it wasn’t really advertised to the Military families. The second time around, we were able to get a stronger Military presence, and some of their vehicles were there. Then they also sent flyers out to the families so Military families could come and see how Police cars and Fire trucks work.”
