New City Council ends 2024

Oxnard—During its Tuesday, Dec. 11, meeting, the new City Council took its seat at the Dais and started organizing its upcoming session.

After the oath of Office and certifying the election during opening remarks, Mayor Luis McArthur thanked everyone who trusted him and Oxnard’s vision.

“I grew up in this City and attended our local schools in South Oxnard and graduated from Channel Islands High School,” he said. “I grew up playing basketball at Questo del Mar. I know what it looks like now, what it used to look like then. I look at my upbringing and the strong values my Parents instilled in me. The Community that raised me, the teachers were the key to getting me to work in the Police Station, opened up an opportunity to do that.”

He said his Parents didn’t have a union’s protection.

“A lot of what I have, I owe to this City that gives me the opportunity to serve, and I want to keep serving,” he said. “We have a great City with a lot of potential, and I want to make Oxnard a cultural destination.”
