Governor Gavin Newsom has granted a historic $80 million to the Port of Hueneme for projects aimed at generating social and economic equity while transforming the port into a zero-emission hub.
The allocation comes as part of the $1.5 billion Port & Freight Infrastructure Program (PFIP) funds approved in the Governor’s 2023-2024 budget on June 30, 2023. The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) led the allocation process, with Secretary Toks Omishakin announcing the funding distribution to Southern California seaports at a press event hosted at the Port of Long Beach on July 6, 2023. Omishakin expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Today is a historic and momentous day for transportation in California, for ports in California, and, more importantly, for the people of California. We collaborated with local partners, port leaders, and federal officials to develop a comprehensive game plan that includes both short-term and long-term solutions.”
During the press conference, Omishakin shared that an unprecedented $79.8 million will be awarded to the Port of Hueneme for its strategic Port Action, Climate, and Environment Development (PACED) project.
