Nguyen advises against potential deadly fireworks

Oxnard—In his Thursday, June 27, report to the City Council, City Manager Alex Nguyen said many residents received a postcard in the mail about the City’s Annual Drinking Water Report.

“We encourage people to go online and take a look at this,” he said. “It’s available at oxnard.gov/CCR. CCR stands for Consumer Confidence Report. It’s annual, but in this case, it’s the 2023 Consumer Confidence Report.”

He reminded everyone that fireworks are illegal as the Fourth of July Holiday approaches.

“I’m reminding everyone again, since this is the last Council meeting in June, that not only are all fireworks illegal in Oxnard, in addition to them being a severe public nuisance, especially for Veterans and pets, they can also be extremely dangerous,” he said. “Five years ago, a young man who was lighting fireworks lost his life. That same year, we had an individual who blew off a few fingers while shooting fireworks here in Oxnard. It’s fun, and people love it, but it’s illegal, a severe public nuisance, and extremely dangerous. You really don’t know what you’ve purchased, and when it goes wrong, it can maim you and also kill you.”
