Oxnard—In his Tuesday, October 7, report to the City Council, Oxnard City Manager Alex Nguyen said October marks the City’s Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Community Affairs Manager Paul Carganilla said the Pink Patch Project began when the Seal Beach Police Department wore pink versions of their patches to raise Awareness About Breast Cancer during the month.
“That turned into a whole thing with other agencies, other First Responders, Fire, and AMR (American Medical Response) started to do the same thing and raise money for the cause,” he said. “We joined the movement in 2018, and this is our eighth consecutive year that we are taking part in the Pink Patch Campaign.”
The effort over the past eight years, he said, raised over $90,000.
“We set up pop-up sales at local organizations, and we sell them at our Police Station through the month of October,” he said. “We also have t-shirts, every year is a different design, and all the money goes to the Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation.”

He said they keep the money local, and it goes to education, advocacy, and social support for anyone dealing with Breast Cancer.
