Oxnard--The City Council approved the reappropriation of Measure O Funds to fund the replacement of a breathing air compressor for Fire Station One during its Tuesday, November 21 meeting.
The action will be funded with $102,000 budgeted for grant matches during Fiscal Year 2023-2024 from Measure O, Fund 104, and the corresponding Capital Outlay Fund, 301, and utilize those funds to replace a 20-year-old breathing air compressor, used to refill Firefighter Self-Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA).
The item was on the consent agenda and normally approved without discussion but spurred questions from Council Member Gabe Teran, who asked Chief Alex Hamilton to explain reappropriating $102,000 for Fire Station One.
“We were allocated about $157,000 in matching funds had we been successful in all the grants that we applied for,” Hamilton said. “One of those grant applications was to replace this Airfield Station air compressor. Ultimately, we weren’t successful in that grant or a number of others, which left this balance in the Measure O Fund. The item before you tonight is to appropriate those remaining funds toward replacing this critical piece of equipment.”
