Omnibus City Code Updated

Oxnard—The Finance & Governance Committee, Tuesday, July 25, received an update on the City’s Omnibus City Code (OCC).

Deputy City Attorney Jason Zaragoza presented the update and said they’re updating the code to address changes in State Law, correct errors, and update gender-neutral references.

On March 10, 1962, the Oxnard City Council adopted the code and over the years, the ordinance has been amended to fix clerical errors and updates to the legal section of the code.

“The ordinance before the committee proposes many non-substantive changes to correct changes in State Law and correct minor errors and update gender references throughout the code,” he said. The proposed changes to the OCC include updating the names of the City Council members, clarifying that the commissioners of the City’s CAGS are appointed by the Mayor with City Council approval, changing references from Rosenberg’s Rules of Order to Robert’s Rules of Order and updating the code to include changes in employee titles, updating gender-neutral references, and modifying the number of days the City Council must reconsider a local emergency from 30 to 60 days, which is a State Law change and modify chapter titles.”
