Oxnard City Council to examine Reproductive Freedom Resolution

Oxnard-- Council Member Vianey Lopez, during council comments Tuesday, May 16, made a request to the city that came from national news stories about Roe v Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court.

“About a year ago, a Planned Parenthood Help Center opened in the City of Oxnard,” she said. “I want to make a request for a resolution to come to the city council that supports women’s rights and supports reproductive freedom, including abortion, and a possible state constitutional amendment to support these rights.”

Council Member Gabe Teran echoed Lopez’s request and have the item come back to the council for viewing and a potential expression of support for what the country is facing as a nation.

“Thank you for bringing that up,” he said.

Council Member Bert Perello also supports the item.

“If the Equal Rights Amendment, giving women the same rights as men in this country, were passed, we would be in a different state, but it hasn’t been passed,” he said. “Why can’t we put the screws to the states that don’t treat women equally? California is a leader, we’ve still got problems, but we don’t have enough states that will get this passed. That speaks…
