Oxnard—In his Tuesday, July 30 report to the City Council, City Manager Alex Nguyen said the Oxnard Fire Department is beginning a special program, the Oxnard EMS Corps, specifically for young people ages 17.5 through 26.
“Especially if you’re interested in learning about and pursuing a career in Emergency Medical Services, or perhaps the Fire Department in the future,” he said. “The program is open, and importantly, to learn how to perform EMS work, but it also pays a monthly stipend of $1,500 while you’re in the program.”
He said the applications are currently available and will run through October.
“In the months of October and November, they will conduct interviews of all the people who apply and are eligible,” he said. “The program itself is next year, from January through May 2025.”

Nguyen said National Night Out is coming on Tuesday, August 6, and Public Safety and departments will attend neighborhood meetings.
Activities will take place in the Cabrillo, Cal Gisler, Carriage Square, La Colonia, Oxnard Shores, Riverpark, Rose, and Wilson neighborhoods.
