Water District shared the latest drought efforts and said the new water year started Saturday, October 1.
HE said the National Oceanic AtmosphericAdministration (NOAA) predicts a 75 percent chance of La Nina through February.
“La Nina translates to a warmer and drier climate for Southern California with a lot of the moisture being pushed off to the Pacific Northwest,” he said. “What this means is that the emergency water restrictions will continue through at least June of next year.”
He said they’ve put in new human health and safety orders, which is the base supply they have for residents to serve indoor water uses for the calendar year 2023.
“That will result in new allocations, and we use those as targets for purveyors, beginning in January,” he said. “Our best case scenario, right now, is to keep that option and maintain a one-day-a-week watering restriction through the winter and early spring until a new State Water Project Allocation is announced for 2023.”
