Oxnard memorial ceremony is a moving tribute

Oxnard—On Wednesday, May 13, the Oxnard Police Department held its 27th Annual Memorial Ceremony, honoring and paying tribute to those who died while on duty.

THE solemn event was packed with residents and family members who lost loved ones, Oxnard Police Department Officers, the Oxnard Fire Department, dignitaries, and fellow Officers from out of State.

Oxnard Police Department Chief Jason Benites said it’s his sixth Memorial as Chief.

“It’s like a family member passing,” he said. “We get good participation from our neighboring agencies, and I believe we have some department heads from other neighboring agencies this morning. There is a lot going on this week; it is Police Week, so we get pulled in different directions. We all try to support each other, and we’re there for each other.”

Sergeant Brian Woolley said he’s been with the Oxnard Police Department for 27 years, and he’s attended every Memorial but one.

 

“This means the history of our fallen Officers and the dedication and respect we have for them to do what they did in service, and sacrifice their lives tragically,” he said. “I helped coordinate the event today with my team, and we put this event together. We had…
