Oxnard mourns Carmen Ramirez

Oxnard--Community members, elected officials, and more all packed Plaza Park Saturday, August 14, to mourn the loss and celebrate the life of Ventura County Supervisor Carmen Ramirez, who was run over in a traffic incident on August 12. at an emotional Candlelight Vigil.

RAMIREZ was in the crosswalk at West Seventh

Street and South A Street, August 12, according to a report from the Oxnard Police Department, and was reportedly struck by a 2020 GMC Sierra. She was taken to the hospital but did not survive her injuries.

Members of the public came to the park to console each other over the loss and share memories of Ramirez.

Deputy City Manager Shiri Klima said Ramirez was a wonderful human being.

“It’s not political memory; she was very sweet to my son,” Klima said. “She brought him stuffed animals and her favorite childhood book. It said everything you need to know about her as a person.”

 

Assistant City Attorney Ken Rozell said Carmen really cared about everyone.

“She had passion like I have never seen before in anyone in public life,” he said. “It is such an amazing loss.”
