Port Hueneme--The City’s big 75th Anniversary celebration is moving forward, as the City Council unanimously approved a special-use permit application.
Community Development Director Tony Stewart presented the item and said the applicant REACH (Recreation, Education, Arts, and Culture in Hueneme) proposes to hold a parade and public event commemorating the City’s 75th Anniversary.
“The event will include a car show, DJ Booth, a Beer Garden, and food trucks,” he said. “The Main Stage will have a pop-up Museum and other assorted vendors. The event will comply with all Covid restrictions if any are in place.”
The 75th Anniversary is a large-scale event requiring a special-use permit for Hueneme Beach Park.
“It’s considered exempt under CEQA because it’s a minor temporary use of the land,” he said.
The City of Port Hueneme is partnering with the REACH partnership to hold the event, he said, and the City of Port Hueneme will not collect beach parking revenues on that day on lots B, C, E, or Surfside Drive.
“The general fund will cover the costs for City staffing at the event and any miscellaneous costs accrued,” Stewart said.
