Port Hueneme--The Port Hueneme Water Agency (PHWA) approved its 2023-24 fiscal year budget during a special meeting Monday, June 26.
The Budget is balanced with projected revenues at $6.5 million versus $6.5 million in expenses.
Finance Department Accounting Manager Ashley Chaparro presented the Budget to the Agency and said the PHWA operates as a utility enterprise with its own funds separate from the City of Port Hueneme.
“The Budget is also accounted for as an enterprise fund, and we ensure that we’re presenting you with a balanced budget,” she said. Our revenue charges must cover our expenses.”
She said water sales, along with the related expenses, are the principal operating revenues of the Agency.
“Operating expenses include water purchases, water production, and general operating and maintenance expenses,” she said.
She said the PHWA’s projected revenue includes domestic and irrigation water usage.
“Our rates are provided to us by United Water and Calleguas, so revenue is based on the water purchase of each entity,” she said. “This year, we are using estimated actuals, so we’re using fiscal 23 actuals except for the June estimate because we are currently in June and don’t have the exact figure yet.”
