Port Hueneme Run/Walk for your Heart approved

Port Hueneme--The City Council unanimously adopted a resolution granting a special use permit for the Port Hueneme Run/Walk for your Heart 5K during its Monday, December 18 meeting. The event will include ancillary healthcare educational booths, children’s activity area, food, vendors, and entertainment.

The run/walk will occur from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2024, and is intended to celebrate Heart Health Awareness Month and attract about 200 participants.

Associate Planner Jose Coyotl presented the item and said the special use permit is required because it’s proposed for Hueneme Beach Park and the Bubbling Springs recreation greenbelt.

The event is also exempt under CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) because it uses existing facilities and is a minor and temporary use of the land.

“This is a City-sponsored event, and beach parking revenues will not be collected for beach parking lots A, B, C, and along Ocean View Drive,” he said. “The event is expected to be offset by approximately $2,000, based on 200 race participants paying a $10 registration fee. Additionally, there is a request for a $3,500 appropriation of funds for the City/Port Community Events Fund is being requested.”
