Port Hueneme-- The city council received a homeless report from Homeless Liaison Officer Henry Montelongo, Monday, December 20.
The report overviewed his four months as the Homeless Liaison Officer, and he said it’s a new and developing position.
“I’m learning something new every day as I work with other agencies and police departments,” he said.
He breaks the homeless populations into residents and transient individuals.
“Myself, along with the other police departments, have narrowed it down to about 15 residents, homeless individuals within the City of Port Hueneme,” he said. “These are individuals that are unhoused for one reason or another; however, they still consider Port Hueneme their home, so they frequent the area. They don’t go out of the city.”
Montelongo said the city also has its regular transients that come into the city, stay a couple of days, and then proceed out.
“We’ve identified about 57 of those individuals that in the past four months have come into the city, had some type of police contact, and proceed back out through the city,” he said. “With these individuals that we’ve had contact with, there are about 200 contacts we’ve done, and out of those 200 contacts, I’ve…
