Oxnard--The City Council adopted a resolution authorizing City Manager Alex Nguyen to apply to the California Department of Housing and Community Development for the City to participate in the State’s Prohousing Designation Program during the Tuesday, March 4, meeting.
The approval authorizes Nguyen or his designee to accept the designation and execute and submit all documents required as deemed necessary or appropriate to participate in the program due to a Tuesday, March 19, Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program Grant application deadline.
Housing Director Emilio Ramirez presented the item and said this action is an opportunity to allow the City of Oxnard to compete for grants better through the State of California.
“It’s a program called Prohousing, and in the State budget in 2019-2020, there was an initiative that allows for the City to designate itself as Prohousing, one that is working to provide sufficient and affordable housing to the needs of its community,” he said. “The State enacted this program to incentivize cities for the development of affordable housing, where such a designation would permit a person to compete better for financing.”
