Oxnard—The Community Services, Public Safety, Housing and Development Committee, Tuesday, July 25, approved accessibility upgrades for Fashion Park Place and the Concord Public Housing sites.

THE action green lights Agreement A-8532 for $1.832 million with MDJ Management with funds previously appropriated for the 2023 Capital grant for Section 504 compliance for properties located at 234 and 257 Fashion Park Place.

The action also approved agreement A-8533 for $1.225 million with MDJ Management with previously appropriated funds from the 2022 Capital Fund grant for Section 504 compliance for properties located at 2950 Concord Drive and 2956 Concord Drive.

Oxnard Housing Authority Assistant Housing Director Brenda Lopez presented the item and said the project is part of a multi-phase project that will bring the Housing Authority into compliance with Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“This act establishes a minimum number of dwelling units that must be accessible for individuals with disabilities,” she said. “As a result of the demolition of the units located at the Colonia Village Public Housing site, the Oxnard Housing Authority lost 44 accessible units. It must remodel at least 24 units to bring the Housing Authority back into compliance.”
