Quality of Life improving across Oxnard

Oxnard-- Mayor John Zaragoza’s State of the City address to the West Ventura County Business Alliance Monday, June 20, continues with the City’s effort to tackle potholes on roadways.

Public Works staff have repaired over 2,500 potholes in the last nine months as part of the City’s $1.3 million investment in street repairs through the operational budget.

Zaragoza said the City’s infrastructure and natural resources are a priority, and Oxnard invested $6 million to restore parks, medians, and trees.

“These investments cover more than $2 million awarded to contractors to maintain the City’s medians and parkways, $1.3 million in restoring sports fields and repairing our playgrounds, and investing in equipment to keep up the maintenance,” he said. “We budgeted $1.2 million for tree maintenance contracts. Prior to Measure E, the City could afford maintenance for just over 1,500 trees a year. The current budget allows the City to trim more than 6,600 trees annually of its more than 48,000 total trees.”

He said the City Council considers public safety a priority, and Oxnard is progressing with its Neighborhood Policing Team.
