Port Hueneme—During its Monday, November 4, meeting, the City Council heard an item about REACH (recreation, educational activities, and culture), composing its Board of Directors and making its Staff a working committee without a City Council Member on its Board.
City Manager James Vega said REACH wants to begin holding events, fundraisers, and activities.
“As they were going through that process, they noted the Board, up until now and per its bylaws, requires one of the Board seats be filled by a City Council representative,” he said. “Until recently, it also required a seat to be filled by a designee of the City Manager’s Office.”
He said the REACH Board is trying to appoint a new Board and move forward and have a working Board; they contacted the City to see if the City Council’s Board seat be removed from its bylaws.
“It doesn’t mean the City won’t be able to have a seat on the Board, but it would remove the requirement that a City Council member be part of the Board,” he said. “The idea here is if a Council member wants to get involved with REACH, they always have the ability to attend meetings if they look…
