Oxnard—It was a celebration and remembrance Saturday, May 30, as the Ride for the Blue Honoring Fallen Officer Ron Helus brought out motorcyclists from everywhere to participate and honor the Sergeant.
THE Ride began at 8:30 a.m. and made stops throughout Ventura County.
Helus was killed in the line of duty on November 7, 2018, while responding to a call in Thousand Oaks.
“The Sergeant Ron Helus Ride for the Blue, honors Ventura County’s First Responders who are the first at the scene when an emergency strikes.”
Ride for the Blue Founder John Short said Sergeant Helus was his friend.
“He (Ron) was a God-fearing young man that would do anything to help others,” he said. “He was a great mentor to Officers at the Sheriff’s Department.”
Short led the Ride across Ventura County, and he started in Simi Valley. He lives in Thousand Oaks.
When he heard about Helus’ passing, he called it “really tragic.”

“He paid the ultimate sacrifice to save over 200 lives that night,” Short said. “These men and women go to work each day, knowing they may not go home to their families at the end of their shift.”
