San Pedro parking restriction lifted

Port Hueneme--The City Council unanimously approved removing the parking restriction on the west side of San Pedro Street between Pleasant Valley Road and Clara Street on Monday, March 4, and authorized staff to consult with Naval Base Ventura County.

Mayor Bobby Martinez requested the City Council reconsider the parking prohibition on San Pedro Street on September 18, 2023, which identified the need to establish a dialogue with Naval Base Ventura County about the proposed change.

The design and signage costs for the change range between $15,000 and $20,000, but it can potentially add up to 70 parking spaces.

City Manager James Vega told the Council they’ve been looking at the parking situation and looking ahead at some of the State law changes that are coming.

“Just this year, we had the new ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) requirements, which essentially require we allow the primary unit and three accessory units, essentially,” he said. “An attached ADU, a detached ADU, and a detached JADU (an independent, legally rentable unit existing within the existing dwelling unit or an attached accessory structure).

He said the City can’t require more parking, but they can’t stop them from taking the existing parking to make space.
