SB1 Project List approved

Oxnard-- The Public Works and Transportation Committee passed the Senate Bill 1 (SB1) Rehabilitation Account Project List for Fiscal Year 23-24 Tuesday, May 9.

The item will fund all or part of the proposed projects with Road Maintenance Account Resources and authorizes City Manager Alex Nguyen to take any necessary and appropriate actions to execute the purpose and intent of the resolution.

Assistant City Engineer Christopher Solis presented the item and said the Governor signed the Road Repair and Accountability Act (SB1) in April 2017, which increased fuel taxes and vehicle registration costs to give California an estimated $5.4 billion annually to fix the roadways.

SB1 is distributed through the Roadway Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account (RMRA).

“RMRA provides the City with funding on a per capita basis, and its uses are restricted to road maintenance and rehabilitation when the Citywide Pavement Condition Index (PCI) is below 79,” he said. “The PCI, since RMRA funding began, started at 61 and has increased to 65 in 2022.”
