Oxnard--In his report to the City Council Tuesday, June 6, City Manager Alex Nguyen responded to some of the evening’s public comments and said he takes responsibility for the number of ceremonial items on the evening’s agenda. There were six.
“It is in the procedures manual that we put two per meeting, the presentation to school children for safe routes to school; we wanted to do that as soon as we could, past the contest, but prior to the kids leaving for summer break,” he said. “We were fortunate to have at least one student here.”
He said Phillipene’s Independence Day flag-raising event is scheduled for June 12.
“We do not meet again until June 20,” he said. “Juneteenth also takes place on June 17, prior to June 20. That’s why those two needed to go.”
He said Pride Month and Disability Abuse Awareness Month are important and have a full month to commemorate.
“I didn’t know what to delete and who to insult in this case,” he said. “Not only with Mr. Miller’s retirement after 26 years, but it was a time that worked best for his family. If that’s offensive to anyone, I don’t apologize but take…
