Seawall project Approved

Oxnard—The Public Works & Transportation Committee, Tuesday, September 24, approved a budget appropriation for the design and construction activities for the Mandalay Bay Sea Wall.

Senior Construction Manager KJ May presented the item and said the new project appropriation totals $1.5 million from the available fund balance in the General Fund and the corresponding Capital Outlay Fund for the Mandalay Bay Seawall Project.

“The Public Works and Transportation Department oversees the planning and execution of the Mandalay Bay Seawall long-term repair program and requires periodic condition assessments in order to effectively prioritize repair work of the 7.6-mile long seawall infrastructure,” he said. “In June 2024, Duncan Engineering completed a routine seawall inspection, and the inspection revealed seawall foundation exposure.”

He said that it warrants the City to prioritize the work and compete with it within the next five years, as recommended by Duncan’s Marine Structural Engineer.

“The total length of the seawall foundation exposure is approximately 3,095 linear feet, out of the total 40,128 linear feet,” he said.
