Oxnard--The City Council accepted the Staff’s recommendation of a Baseball and Softball Complex as the future uses of a proposed Sports Park during its Tuesday, January 17 meeting, which included a load of community input from local residents.
The action also included a Soccer Complex to address a need and shortage of fields at College Park.
Mayor John Zaragoza liked the Staff report and noted that trying to bring all the sports presented at Sports Park Idea Day would take up to 20 years to accomplish, but a Baseball and Softball Complex, along with a Soccer Complex is something they should look at considering. Project Manager Samantha Shapiro presented the video and said the City Council adopted the Parks and Recreation Master Plan on February 16, 2021, after 24 months of development with significant opportunities to develop a guide grounded in diverse interests in the local community.
After 29 community meetings and events, she said the Master Plan Community process, community members provided input into the Master Plan before adoption at two Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission meetings, one City Council Committee, and full City Council meetings.
