Oxnard-- Nearly 20 unused acres were transformed at the corner of Gonzales Road and Oxnard Boulevard Saturday, April 30, as Sports Park Idea Day was filled with hopes, dreams, and possibilities.
RESIDENTS shared hopes about a vibrant, active park and heard from organizations about future recreation opportunities. After a hugely successful Great Oxnard Campout, Oxnard Cultural and Community Services Director Terrel Harrison said that Idea Day is more fun.
“We solicited and put out the word to different groups,” he said. “Whether it be a neighborhood group or a group that does sports and recreation, such as the YMCA and soccer groups. We’ve invited everybody who would think they have a good plan for this space. We invited them, as well as the community, to come out, look at the plans they have, and express themselves to the city about what would be a good fit.”
He said step one for a good Sports Park is figuring out what the community wants.
